Bastow website redevelopment

The website needed to be more usable and better support Bastow’s branding, positioning and the structure of its professional development and training offerings.

Our solution was a more dynamic, informative, user-focused and engaging website.

The Bastow Institute of Educational Leadership is a branch within the Victorian Department of Education and Early Childhood Development. Bastow provides professional development and training to primary and secondary school teachers and principals and early childhood practitioners.

Reflecting services and expectations

Creating a site that reflected Bastow’s role as an educational leadership training organisation meant having a deep understanding of their branding and services as well as the needs and expectations of their stakeholders. This involved:

• Conducting an expert review and analysis of site analytics for the current site
• Conducting workshops and interviews with internal stakeholders
• Developing a high-level information architecture and layouts for key pages
• Conducting one-on-one user testing and validation of the proposed information architecture and web page layouts
• Identifying technical implications of the proposed information architecture
• Mapping all the existing content to the new information architecture
• Editing, rewriting and reorganising content and writing new content.

Finding information is simple on the new site (navigation is by audience type) and information is provided in an easy-to-scan format with related resources.

We are also developing case studies (written and video) based on the experiences of course participants for the website to provide inspirational accounts of the Bastow ‘experience’.
