Mind Australia Intranet

The Mind Australia Intranet was in need of redevelopment to enable staff to successfully find information and to collaborate and share information with staff in other divisions.

PROCESS

User research

Research with staff included:

• An expert review of the usability of the current Intranet and site analytics
• A staff workshop with representative staff using an online open card sorting activity to understand how they want information organised on the Intranet
• An online ‘true intent’ survey using the Loop11 tool to track staff pathways to key information and record their opinions about current Intranet navigation and usability.

Information architecture

Based on the findings from consultations with staff, a consistent, task-based navigation and wireframes were developed and the most accessed content, news and tools were promoted to be more visible on each landing page.

SOLUTION

The redeveloped Mind Australia Intranet achieved:

• Improved access to key content (via prominent icons)
• A more logical topic structure
• Consistent and effective navigation with less long lists and reduced clicks to core content.
